Julia Tuttle’s bronze statue holding an orange blossom – Bayfront Park, Downtown Miami

Legend says that following the “Big Freezes” of 1894 & 1895, the Mother of Miami – Julia Tuttle – sent a bouquet of orange blossoms to Henry Flagler as evidence that there had been no freeze in Miami. As a result, Flagler extended his railroad south to what is now Downtown Miami.
